Wetland, Greencard, Trio
Single channel video, color+night vision, sound, 10' 7", 2012
English subtitle | Korean narration

Wetland, Greencard, Trio is based on an autobiographical love story, in which the uncertain immigration status of Yi's boyfriend challenges further their love-hate relationship. The video is a kind of musical score, documenting her journey adorned with deer antlers, from moving an indoor tree to encountering a deer at a nature reserve, bordered by apartment buildings in the wetlands in New Jersey in the United States.

The deer represents the living creature most vulnerable in an urban environment, but also indicates a gendered emotion and disposition. A gospel choir sings “As the Deer”, which is intended to emotionally resonate at the end of the video. The Christian music introduces the climax of this love story, shot in night vision, reinforcing vulnerability of the relationship and its unstable circumstances.
